A while back, I started a creative project: creating a mosaic on top of the buffet in my outdoor gazebo. Thinking “how hard can it be???” I jumped right in. Re-purposing tiles that were gifted to me, adding edging pieces from The Re-Store, I started out. 2 years later, it’s finished!! In the meantime, I was focused on Open Studios, re-designing my classes and launching them online, and, of course the issue that I had never done any mosaic before. A sane person would have learned mosaic by doing 12″ stepping stones. But I chose a 6 foot by 2.5 foot project on top of a piece of wooden furniture. I learned how to cut cement board to protect the surface of the wood outdoors (ok, BOB learned how to cut it!). I realized I was over my head, so I took some stepping stone classes with Anne Hodges in Baywood Park. And finally last weekend, I got all the tiles glued down. Whew! Then I started the grouting process. You Tube videos said it would take me about 1/2 hour to grout that size. So I figured an hour. I was persistent, but it took a few days. With breaks, of course. And it’s finally done. I LOVE completing things that I envisioned a long time ago. I love the surge I feel when the energy tied into that project is freed up and available for the next project.
That’s why I consider “completions” to be an essential part of Outrageous Self-Care!

P.S. I’ve had some questions about the materials. Thanks to coaching from Michael at Green Goods, SLO, I used Versa-Bond adhesive and Fusion Grout.
